I see that all of Romania’s taken a break for the past few days…

Politically speaking (cause I just can’t help myself!), the day off on April 30th which was approved by Government Decision (somebody let me know if it was approved via a different type of law - I don’t read Official Gazettes around the clock, you know?) is clearly meant to improve the public image of Prime Minister Călin Popescu Tăriceanu. And I gotta say that it’s a really smart move and it’s actually helping him.

Otherwise, I see that the last few news (or blog) days in Romania have been focused only on the death of a workaholic young lady (Jurnalul Naţional, Gândul, piticu, zoso) and for the life of me I just can’t see what the fuss is all about…

Thanks to my employer (the 2nd worst possible employer, after the state) I am working right now, today (3 AM on a Sunday!!!) without the slightest regard from my employer, I will not be getting any bonus (as usual!), I’ve lost over 26 lbs. over the past 3 months and I’ve doubled my daily ration of coffee in just the last 2 weeks (and I did it really hush-hush, so that nobody would pick on me and start effing my brains about my health )

But I love working. I see myself as a very lucky person that a regular day of activity for me is at least 16 hours long and if I have work to do I’ll work weekdays, weekends, legal and even religious holidays, unlike those that go home at 5 PM in the most relaxed fashion ever and just stop caring about their work.

I know they’re jealous of me (Yeah… right)

Now hear this: This is not, I repeat, not a cry of desperation nor a cry for help. I choose what I do with my neurons. I’d rather put them to work than drink them.

PS: The truly sadistic employer is myself. The most unpleasant thing about being self-employed is that you can’t hate your boss. A*hole!

Văd că întreaga Românie a luat pauză câteva zile…

Politic vorbind (că nu mă pot abţine!), ziua liberă de pe 30 aprilie aprobată prin Hotărâre de Guvern (dacă a fost prin alt fel de act, să-mi dea careva un semn şi schimb - nu citesc Monitoare Oficiale non-stop, ştiţi?) are motivul clar de a… ajuta la îmbunătăţirea imaginii prim-ministrului Călin Popescu Tăriceanu. Şi trebuie să zic că e o mişcare foarte inteligentă şi chiar ajută.

Altfel, văd că ultimele zile jurnalistice (sau bloggeristice) din România s-au axat doar pe moartea uneia care muncea prea mult (Jurnalul Naţional, Gândul, piticu, zoso) şi chiar nu înţeleg de ce atâta vâlvă…

Datorită angajatorului meu (al doilea cel mai nenorocit posibil, după stat) eu muncesc chiar astăzi (3 dimineaţa duminică!!!) fără nici cea mai mică jenă, nu voi primi nici un bonus (ca de obicei!), am slăbit peste 12 kg în ultimele 3 luni şi mi-am dublat porţia zilnică de cafea în doar ultimele 2 săptămâni (şi am făcut-o pe ascuns, să nu se ia nimeni de mine )

Dar mie îmi place să muncesc. Mă consider chiar norocos că o zi normală de activitate are pentru mine cel puţin 16 ore şi că dacă am de lucru lucrez zile lucrătoare, week-end-uri, sărbători legale şi chiar şi sărbători religioase, spre deosebire de aceia care se duc relaxaţi acasă la 5 şi nu-i mai interesează nimic.

Ştiu că ei sunt geloşi pe mine

No’ acuma, acesta nu este, repet, nu este un strigăt de disperare şi de ajutor. Este alegerea mea ce fac cu neuronii mei. Prefer să-i pun la lucru în loc să-i beau.

PS: Angajatorul ăla nenorocit sunt chiar eu. Cel mai neplăcut lucru la a fi self-employed este că nu-ţi poţi urî şeful. Nenorocitul!

Yesterday, 3 of the justices of the Constitutional Court of Romania, namely Ion Predescu, Nicolae Cochinescu and Aspazia Cojocaru, were anointed to have been clean as a whistle for the entire duration of the Romanian Communist regime (1945-1989).

Keeping it short, the decisions established that they did not practice political police back in those days.

This thing occurred when the stars were just right, of course:

- right in the middle of a presidential impeachment process which the Romanian legislative vacuum will transfer on the docket of the Constitutional Court, which will have final say in the decision;

- just 8 days after Social Democratic Party (PSD) President Mircea Geoană presented Mr. Florian Coldea’s note (First Deputy of the Romanian Intelligence Service - SRI - which happened to have been appointed by Mr. Traian Băsescu - the suspended president - although this in no way affects his objectivity, of course) on which he’d jotted down, totally random and without any connection to the real/political world, of course, and with no intent whatsoever to in any way use compromising information against or in order to motivate the Constitutional Court justices, exactly the names of those three Constitutional Court justices mentioned above, complete with details of where their Securitate files would be;

- canceling a previous decision of the same body, which established that Aspazia Cojocaru had practiced political police;

- by the National Council for the Studying of the Securitate Archives, which is a very political body, whose members are “appointed by the Parliament, at the proposal of the parliamentary groups, as per the political configuration of the two Chambers”, to quote article 8 paragraph (2) of Law 187/1999.

No comment.

Ieri, 3 dintre cei 9 judecători ai Curţii Constituţionale din România şi anume Ion Predescu, Nicolae Cochinescu şi Aspazia Cojocaru, au fost unşi curaţi ca lacrima pentru perioada comunistă.

Pe scurt, s-a stabilit că dânşii nu au efectuat poliţie politică în acele vremuri.

Acest lucru a avut loc exact atunci când stelele se aflau în poziţia perfectă:

- fix în mijlocul unei suspendări de preşedinte pe care vidul legislativ românesc o va forţa să fie tranşată chiar la Curtea Constituţională;

- la doar 8 zile după ce preşedintele PSD, Mircea Geoană, a prezentat biletul d-lui Florian Coldea, prim-adjunctul directorului SRI (care a fost numit chiar de către dl. Traian Băsescu, deşi acest lucru nu îi afectează în vreun fel obiectivitatea, desigur) şi unde acesta îşi notase, total aleatoriu şi fără a avea vreo legătură cu ceva din lumea reală/politică sau de actualitate, precum şi fără nici cea mai mică intenţie de a utiliza în vreun fel informaţii compromiţătoare împotriva sau pentru a-i motiva pe membrii Curţii Constituţionale, chiar numele celor trei membri ai Curţii Constituţionale menţionaţi mai sus şi detalii privind pe unde s-ar afla dosarele lor de securitate;

- anulând o decizie anterioară a aceluiaşi for, ce stabilea că Aspazia Cojocaru a făcut poliţie politică;

- de către Colegiul Naţional pentru Studierea Arhivelor Securităţii, organism puternic politizat, ai cărui membri sunt “numiţi de Parlament, la propunerea grupurilor parlamentare, potrivit configuraţiei politice a celor două Camere”, ca să citez art. 8 alin. (2) al Legii 187/1999.

I think that if you look over the test results on this page, you’ll be convinced of one of the following two things:

1. Nearly every person that takes written employment exams for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is truly stupid, and the intellectual differences between stupid candidates (those with grades of 2 something [that's 20%, for you Americans reading this], etc.) and average candidates (with grades higher than 7 [70%]) are extraordinary.

2. But certain people do manage to get a passing grade, which gets them a face-to-face interview (for reasons that have to do with… the ethereal, of course).

Anyway, let us be proud of and give a round of applause for MFA Spokesperson Corina Vinţan, who has passed the written exam and whose incapacity was proven live this evening on the Ştirea Zilei [News of the Day] show, with the help of Minister Adrian Cioroianu (who was trying to explain to everybody that there was no attempt to plan a meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice) and a quote from the press-release Corina gave, which was provided live by Cristian Tudor Popescu.

I’m quoting the original text of the press release here:

“MFA Position

Meeting with the US Secretary of State

The agenda of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice did not allow for a meeting with minister Cioroianu.
Such a meeting with Secretary Rice would have been desired, either on this occasion or on another. Unfortunately, due to objective reasons, such a meeting could not bet set up.
It is a normal issue at such events to attempt to secure as many bilateral meetings as possible.
However, we have every reason to believe that the Romanian-American strategic partnership is as strong as ever and that our mutual commitments for our joint projects remain as firm as before.
All this weird news flow on this subject is has no scope or usefulness.
We would like to bring to your attention the fact that such biased use of foreign policy information can act in a damaging manner for Romania.”

Update (26 APR 2007): Corroborating with this article [which reinforces the original press release text], I realize Minister Adrian Cioroianu has no clue what is going on in the Ministry he’s running. I cannot offer my apologies to Corina Vinţan because she, with the help of her colleagues, should have properly informed Mr. Adrian Cioroianu, who was only recently appointed to his position. Making the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania look like a fool denotes lack of professionalism on behalf of his staff.

Cred că dacă vă veţi uita peste rezultatele de pe această pagină, veţi fi convinşi de unul din următoarele două lucruri:

1. Aproape toţi oamenii care dau examene de angajare scrise la Ministerul Afacerilor Externe sunt de-a dreptul cretini, iar diferenţele dintre candidaţii cretini (cei cu note de 2 şi ceva, etc.) şi candidaţii medii (cu note de peste 7) este extraordinară.

2. Doar anumite persoane reuşesc să ia o notă cât să ajungă la un interviu faţă în faţă (pe motive ce ţin de chestiuni… eterice, desigur).

Oricum ar fi, haideţi să fim mândri de şi să o aplaudăm pe purtătoarea de cuvânt, Corina Vinţan, care a luat notă de trecere la examenul scris şi a cărei incapacitate a fost dovedită în această seară, în direct, la Ştirea Zilei, cu ajutorul ministrului Adrian Cioroianu (care încerca să explice că nu s-a încercat planificarea unei întâlniri cu Secretarul de Stat Condoleeza Rice) şi a citatului din comunicatul de presă al sus-numitei furnizat în direct de către Cristian Tudor Popescu.

Întâlnire cu secretarul de stat american

Agenda secretarului de stat american, Condoleezza Rice, nu a permis stabilirea unei întrevederi cu ministrul Cioroianu.
Ar fi fost de dorit o astfel de întâlnire cu secretarul de stat Rice, fie cu această ocazie, fie cu o alta. Din păcate, acest lucru nu a putut fi însă convenit, din raţiuni obiective.
Este normal ca la astfel de evenimente să încerci obţinerea cât mai multor întâlniri bilaterale.
Avem, însă, toate motivele să credem că parteneriatul strategic româno-american este la fel de puternic şi că angajamentele reciproce pentru proiectele comune sunt la fel de ferme.
Tot acest flux straniu de ştiri de pe această temă nu îşi are obiectul şi rostul.
Atragem atenţia că utilizarea în mod tendenţios a informaţiilor din domeniul politicii externe poate acţiona în detrimentul României.”

Update (26 APR 2007): Coroborând şi cu articolul acesta, aparent dl. Ministru Adrian Cioroianu nu ştie ce se întâmplă în ministerul pe care îl conduce. Nu-i pot adresa scuzele mele Corinei Vinţan deoarece dânsa ar fi trebuit, cu ajutorul colegilor săi, să-l informeze corespunzător pe dl. Adrian Cioroianu, care este foarte proaspăt instalat în funcţie. A face ca Ministrul de Externe al Guvernului României să pice de prost denotă lipsă de profesionalism din partea personalului.
