Probably because of the stress he was under today, when every Romanian was called to vote for or against his impeachment, the President of Romania stole a cell phone from a reporter who was using it to film him in a major supermarket in Bucharest.

He refused to return it to the reporter, saying “come and get it from me on Monday”. After she informed him that he was behaving like a common criminal he told her to “go to the police and file a complaint”. He has presidential immunity so he couldn’t care less.

The cell phone was later returned to a team of reporters from the same TV station, but the recording of the President actually stealing the cell phone had been wiped.

The discussion that followed (presented by Realitatea TV):

Rep.: Where?

Pres.: You come look for me at Cotroceni Palace.

Rep.: But that is my personal phone.

Pres.: Yeah, but the image on it is mine and it’s my free time. Everything has a limit; you sit around a person for as long as that person lets you

Rep.: I only stayed as long as you let me.

Pres.: You stayed longer than I let you. Without even realizing it.

Rep.: But it’s my phone and this is considered a theft.

T.B.: I did not steal it from you. Come look for me on Monday.

Rep.: You stole it from me and I can file a complaint with the Police that President Traian Băsescu stole my cell phone.

T.B.: Yeah… you go file a complaint.

Rep.: But you can’t just take my phone.

T.B.: But you were aggressive.

Rep.: I was merely asking you…
