Adrian Năstase finally answered my question but most of all the answer I gave myself (reply translated by yours truly):
Z criticizes me about Mircea Geoană’s Bucharest Mayoral race candidacym which he sees as my attempt to eliminate competition from within the Social Democratic Party. You are wrong, Z. I was against this candidacy. Unfortunately, Dan Ioan Popescu convinced both Mircea Geoană of the Chirac model and Mr. Iliescu that Mircea Geoană should run for Bucharest Mayor.
I for one choose to partially believe you and continue to ask myself who convinced Dan Ioan Popescu to be so convincing
- I remember how back in those days the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had basically gone into mourning and the truth factory that is the Minister’s Chancellery was abuzz with the fact that he was forced to run.
Allow me to bestow upon you far greater importance and power within the Social Democratic Party of those days than rested in Mr. Ion Iliescu (who was apolitical, being the President of Romania and all) or in Mr. Dan Ioan Popescu.
PS: My personal opinion remains that Mr. Băsescu’s “anti-corruption” lackeys are trying to make you throw yourself off a bridge or something by tormenting you with the sheer human stupidity and idiocracy they so blatantly include in their files against you, you having a Ph. D. in International Law and all.
