Mr. Pacepa is not and never was a patriot, he was a Spy chief that sold information for money and an American passport, that’s all.

IMO, you’re perfectly right saying what you just did. But you’re off on his popularity in Romania. If you ask anybody, and I do mean anybody who’s over 35 or who actually read any history, they’re all going to say he’s a fucking traitor who would deserve the death penalty for high treason.
Other than that, the media paints him all nice and well because he defected to the US and Romania’s doing its best to get cuddly with the States (butt-kissing comes natural to most Romanians).
